In 1984 John and Arda Edelman purchased an old 2-bay gas station and started a small used car lot. Customer service was of the greatest importance, while providing competitive pricing on quality, late model, used vehicles.
The company is based on Christian biblical principles that accentuate honesty and integrity. When you enter the reception area you will see a sign that says:
“Christ is the head of this company; The unseen partner in every transaction; The silent listener at every conversation; The final judge of all decisions. In His love this company is kept, And to His glory this company is dedicated.”
Almost every year, since the beginning, there has been some form of construction underway for expansion or efficiency of the business. Presently Haldimand Motors boasts 100 shop bays plus a full parts and service department, 15 acres of property and 80 staff members. There are over 500 late model used vehicles in stock at the Cayuga facility.
As of November 30, 2020, Haldimand Motors has been acquired by AutoCanada, a multi-location automobile dealership group. With this change moving forward, Haldimand Motors and all the faces you know, will continue to operate the business as usual. With AutoCanada’s help, we will achieve our goal of becoming an exceptional place to be employed, and continue to enhance the lives of our community and improve efficiencies here at the dealership. We are here to create an exceptional experience for our customers when it comes to purchasing and servicing your vehicles. Our team believes in AutoCanada’s vision as we keep integrity and professionalism at the forefront of how we conduct our business and Christ at the center of who we are.
As John and Arda make an official retirement, the next generation of Edelman’s continue to run the day to day for Auto Canada. Amy Huitema and Nic Edelman (John & Arda’s daughter and son) have taken on the General Manager role together. Amy and Nic both plan on running with the same morals and integrity that John and Arda believed in.
Back in 1997, John Edelman came up with an idea to give back to the community with an annual event called The Great Tricycle Race. This event runs the first Friday after Labor Day every year. All the Service Clubs, Fire Stations and Churches of Haldimand County are invited compete in a race on adult tricycles. All monies raised are given back to the community. You will also find the 5 local food banks here collecting canned goods for our community.
Every year, Haldimand Motors sponsors many different local sport teams from Soccer, Hockey, Softball, Baseball, 4H, and more.
